Driving Green Careers Forward: GCC Expands Partnerships for Impact

With the Green Careers Caravan (GCC) gaining momentum, our team has actively engaged key stakeholders to drive green workforce development and tackle critical environmental challenges.

This month, our Co-Founder and CEO, Sellah Bogonko, HSC, visited Kisii University, where she met with Vice Chancellor Prof. Nathan Oyori Ogechi and his management team to discuss the implementation of the GCC. Their discussions went beyond the program’s roll-out to address the urgent issue of soil erosion, which continues to devastate Kisii County. The loss of fertile land and declining agricultural productivity pose significant risks, making climate-smart solutions and green skills development more critical than ever. Through the GCC, we are eager to collaborate with Kisii University to equip students with green economy skills while supporting efforts to mitigate soil erosion and safeguard local livelihoods.

Subsequent Green Careers Caravan interactions included  Taita Taveta University. Over a courtesy call, Vice Chancellor Prof. Fred S. Barasa met with our CEO and Co-Founder, Sellah Bogonko, and the GCC team to explore opportunities to bridge the youth employability gap. The discussions focused on aligning university training with the green economy’s demands, ensuring students are equipped with future-proof skills to thrive in a rapidly evolving job market.

The GCC team also made strides on a continental level, meeting with the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) on March 26, 2025, to find alignment on the agenda of youth green skilling in higher education. Led by Mandarina Khabetsa, JLA’s Chief Communications and Advocacy Manager, our discussions with Aggrey Ndombi (Senior Education Economist, AfDB), Hendrina Chalwe Doroba (Division Manager, Education and Skills Development, AfDB), and Simiso Shabangu (Junior Consultant, AfDB) reinforced a shared commitment to closing the skills mismatch between university education and the needs of the emerging green economy. The consensus? Multi-sectoral collaboration is essential to catalyze green job opportunities for African youth.

As we expand our partnerships and engage institutions across the continent, the Green Careers Caravan remains steadfast in its mission to ensure a ready green workforce.
