OVERVIEW
Matzikama District
The Matzikama District is a developing region facing high unemployment and mounting environmental and socio-economic challenges.
The partnership between Jacob’s Ladder Africa and the Matzikama Municipality aims to launch bold, youth-led initiatives that create jobs, empower women, and build local livelihoods.
This is a new frontier for JLA and the beginning of a movement across Southern Africa.

PROGRAMMES
Programmes
We value the voices of young people through youth empowerment, greening skills, community building and development. These will come through:
Learnerships
A two-phase program starting with a foundational course in general technical skills (mechanical, electrical, solar, wind, and workshop readiness), followed by a specialized maintenance training.
Sustainable agriculture
We are establishing greenhouses as agricultural training hubs to grow crops and tree seedlings for sale, commercial production and supply to the municipality for landscaping projects.
Enterprise Development
We will be providing entrepreneurship and life skills training to youth, financial literacy training to women and support women-led enterprises to sell farm produce and run kitchens.
Waste Management
The project promotes environmental restoration and youth engagement through training in waste management, digital reporting, and hands-on activities like irrigation, seedling planting, garbage collection, and urban beautification.
