We know that true transformation begins when communities, leaders and young people come together to shape their own future. That vision came alive in the Matzikama region of South Africa, from the 19th to the 21st of August, where we proudly hosted the Phakama Matzikama-Let’s Rise Up Youth Engagement in partnership with the Matzikama Municipality.
This three-day engagement was both a milestone for the region and it also marked the official launch of JLA’s footprint in South Africa. It was the start of a journey to stand with municipalities, stakeholders and most importantly the youth, to co-create pathways to opportunities and lasting change.
Three Days of Dialogue, Energy, and Action!
Over the course of three days, the Let’s Rise Up youth engagement created an inclusive and vibrant space where young voices and dynamic ideas were heard. Partnerships and pathways forward were forged. Young people spoke their minds with honesty and passion, sharing the challenges they face, the opportunities they envision, and the solutions they believe in. These were not one-way conversations, because alongside the young voices were representatives from Jacob’s Ladder Africa including Co-Founder and CEO, Sellah Bogonko, the Municipality and stakeholders addressing pressing issues such as youth unemployment, skills development, and innovation coming through practically designed solutions, existing and new programs that will open new and more opportunities for the next generation.
For us at JLA, Phakama Matzikama embodies our mission: to activate 30 million jobs in the African green economy by 2033. The conversations that have emerged over the three days will inform the programs we roll out in collaboration with the Matzikama Municipality as we set base in the southern African region. By creating a platform where youth and decision-makers share the same space, we are ensuring that development is done for young people but with them.
As Jacob’s Ladder Africa takes root in South Africa, our commitment is clear: to rise together with communities, municipalities, and young people. Bridging the gap leading to employment, innovation and a thriving future for the next generation.
Phakama Matzikama. Staan Op Matzikama. Let’s Rise Up.
