On the evening of December 4th, 2025, the pace slowed deliberately as members of the Alliance for Greening Skills and Opportunities Kenya (AGSO) gathered not for a conference, a panel, or at a negotiation table, but for something rarer, a moment to pause.
Dubbed the AGSO Pitstop, the end-year gathering hosted by JLA in partnership with GIZ Kenya, brought together government, academia, the private sector, and civil society for an evening of reflection, reconnection, and forward-looking conversations. It was a space intentionally designed to take stock of the year and look ahead to what can be built.
Throughout the evening, members reflected on the milestones of the year and the progress made in advancing green skills, the challenges encountered, and the lessons learned along the way. These conversations were not retrospective for nostalgia’s sake, but reflective in service of clarity, highlighting what worked, what didn’t, and what must be done differently as Africa’s green transition continues to unfold.
The mood was relaxed but purposeful. Conversations flowed easily, animated by shared experiences and mutual curiosity. Laughter filled the room as members took part in collaborative games working in teams, solving challenges, and enjoying moments of light-hearted competition.
As Kenya and the wider continent accelerate their green transition, demand for skilled labour is growing across sectors from renewable energy and sustainable agriculture to circular economy solutions and climate-smart infrastructure. Yet persistent skills gaps and weak alignment between training systems, labour-market needs, and policy implementation continue to constrain progress. In this landscape, AGSO plays a critical coordinating role bringing together public, private, academic, and civil society actors to align efforts and drive more coherent action in the green economy.
As the year draws to a close and a new one comes into view, the AGSO Pitstop served as a timely reminder that translating green ambition into skills and opportunity relies not only on policy and financing, but on sustained coordination, trust, and collective action across sectors.
